Assam: 4 Arrested For Alleged Rape Of 13-Year-Old Girl Inside Car In Kokrajhar

GUWAHATI: Police arrested four youths in Assam's Kokrajhar district for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl inside a car, an official said on Thursday.

The incident reportedly took place on Tuesday and all the four accused youths have been sent to police custody for three days.

The arrested youths accused of the heinous crime have been identified as Rubel Rahman, Imran Hussain, Anowar Hussain and Mominur Rahman. Moreover, all of the four accused are reportedly in the age group of 19-24 years and are residents of Dhubri district.

It was also revealed that Rubel and Imran are school students, while Mominur works as a driver. Anowar is said to be unemployed.

Meanwhile, Nur Islam Sarkar, a senior police officer investigating the case, said: "A patrolling police party on Tuesday afternoon intercepted a car and brought the youths and the girl to the police station after they were found suspicious during questioning." He also said that the minor girl, in her statement, later accused the youths of raping her inside the car.

Officer Sarkar further stated, "The girl was known to Rubel. The girl came in contact with Rubel a couple of months ago through Instagram. On the day of the incident, the youth came to meet her from Dhubri with his friends and they allegedly raped her," while adding that, "The health of the girl is fine as stated by the doctors.”

It may be recalled here that the Section 228A of the Indian Penal Code 1860 (IPC) prohibits the printing or publishing of the name or any other detail which discloses the identity of a victim of rape.

In a related case, on May 7, top cop of the district Abhijit Gaurav in his statement to Digboi media, categorically denied the incident of Margherita’s minor rape and murder as the case of ‘gang rape’. In the light of the on-going investigations, evidences and recorded statements of accused and witnesses, we deny the involvement of any more accomplices involved in the commission of the crime along with the prime accused Anan Tati. The wife of the accused who is under police custody has confessed her involvement while disposing the corpse of the minor into the septic tank.

“The investigation is in fast track mode under the direct supervision of DGP Assam. Police have collected crucial evidences which show involvement of wife of accused in disposing dead body and destroying the evidences. From available evidences we have ruled out any possibility of gang rape or involvement of any other person in crime,” shared the top cop.
