LAKHIMPUR: Before the upcoming parliamentary election, Lakhimpur district has witnessed a trend in political party members quitting one party and joining other. On Wednesday, a joining function was organized by Lakhimpur district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Marcha (BJYM), the brother organization of the BJP in the Lakhimpur district office of the party. The party claimed that as many as 500 youths of Lakhimpur district, including TMPK members, mainly from the newly delimited 76 Lakhimpur LAC, joined the saffron party in that function.

The event was attended by BJYM State president Siddhartha Ankur Baruah, general secretary Tridibjyoti Moran, Jila Probhari Biswajit Khaund, BJYM Lakhimpur district president Pijush Baruah, Lakhimpur district BJP president Phanidhar Baruah, Lakhimpur MLA Manab Deka along with many party leaders. Welcoming the newcomers, Phanidhar Baruah and Manab Deka said that the joining of the youths had strengthened the BJP. “On seeing the public support to BJP, Congress Party is now staging joining dramas here and there. No indigenous will people join Congress,” Phanidhar Baruah said.

On the other hand, Manab Deka criticized Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president, AIUDF chief Badaruddin Ajmal with strong term alleging an underground relationship between Congress and AIUDF. “Had Congress been in power in Assam, Badaruddin Ajmal would have been the Home Minister,” Manab Deka said. He added that BJP would organize a joining meeting in Lakhimpur every week in the upcoming days.
