LAKHIMPUR: “Defining or evaluating Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev just as a religious preacher and a literary figure is an injustice to the multiple qualities of the noble soul. He transformed the gross psychology of society with a realistic view of his spiritual philosophy. His philosophy teaches how individuals or societies can transform themselves by uplifting human values and leading themselves towards the attainment of divine qualities to create a world free of hatred and violence, full of peace, progress, and bliss. It was Sankardev who studied the society of different castes, creeds, and beliefs and brought all of them together with his new teachings for a better life and culture”. This was stated by Ranjit Kakati, a spiritual speaker-cum-writer and journalist in Lakhimpur, while taking part as a chief speaker in the ‘Dharmalosana Sabha’ organized in connection with the celebration of the 575th ‘Abirbhav Tithi’ of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev in Lakhimpur.

The event was organized by the Katori Chapori Regional Committee at the Anchalik Namghar, located at Bharatpur village, with two-day-long colourful programmes on Saturday and Sunday, covering the greater Chaoldhowa area situated on the River Subansiri. It was inaugurated by Khirod Borah, Professor of Philosophy at RK College.

In the programme, Ranjit Kakati delivered his lecture on a designated topic: “Relevance of Sankardev’s spiritual philosophy for the amelioration and transformation of persons, integration of society at the backdrop of a contemporary time full of challenges”. In connection, he further said, ‘Gurujona’ redeemed the people of the mediaeval period from the very clutches of blind religious beliefs, intolerance, and dogmatism by preaching the scientific principles of his spiritual philosophy, which aimed at upgrading the moral and ethical standard of the people, irrespective of their caste and creed, by advocating the popular, easy path of Bhakti, that is pure devotion”. A teacher at Katori Chapori High School, Bidyut Mahanta, took part in the programme as a co-speaker. A galaxy of prominent personalities and academicians graced the occasion as distinguished guests. The Dharmalosana Sabha began with a Diha Nam, performed by the women devotees from Dhanpur village. Prior to it, Bhagawat Bhraman and a cultural rally were taken out, which was preceded by Usha Kirtan in the early morning.

On the other hand, the agenda of the event on Saturday kicked off with Usha Kirtan at 4:00 am under the management of Biman Bordoloi and Roseswar Bhuyan. It was followed by the hoisting of “Dharma Dhwajj” by the celebration committee president Jayanta Rajkhowa, a plantation drive inaugurated by social worker Rameswar Saikia and Nam Prasanga, led by Biman Bordoloi and Prasanta Borah. On the same day, a series of literary and cultural competitions were held among the students and women.
