Assam: 59th raising day of Border Security Forces held in Cachar district

Along with rest of the country, regarded as “First line of defence in India”, the Border Security Forces (BSF) of Mizoram-Cachar Frontier, situated at Masimpur under Cachar district of Assam, celebrated their 59th raising day with great pomp and show, on Friday.

SILCHAR: Along with rest of the country, regarded as “First line of defence in India”, the Border Security Forces (BSF) of Mizoram-Cachar Frontier, situated at Masimpur under Cachar district of Assam, celebrated their 59th raising day with great pomp and show, on Friday. Mizoram-Cachar Frontier of the BSF which guards 475 kms of their international border with Bangladesh apart from guarding borders of South Assam in Barak valley, in a glittering function at their Masimpur headquarters celebrated their raising day. The celebrations began with a sparkling march past with bands, display of arms and artillery, with their women’s wing acumen in handling them, a cake cutting ceremony, a dog show that guards the frontiers and borders detecting narcotics and even bombs, a spectacular cultural show, mesmerized a host of dignitaries and guests present on this occasion.

BSF’s Mizoram-Cachar Frontier in past one year has seized, 2 arms, 263 ammunition, 383 cattle, 8,15,670 banned Yaba tablets, 3.15 Kgs of Heroin, 649 Kgs of Ganja, worth Rs 217 crore in this sector alone. Speaking on this auspicious day to the media, Akhileshwar Singh, IG BSF of Mizoram-Cachar Frontier, said, “In 1965 with 25 battalions the formation of this forces to guard the borders has now almost touched 200 battalions and is the largest border guarding force in the world. We guard almost 6000 kilometres of international border. 4000 with Bangladesh and 2000 with Pakistan. We not only guard international borders but also have to keep a check on infiltration, movement of drugs and cattle for which have a lot of challenges.”
