GUWAHATI: After taking over as the new SP of Lakhimpur, Anand Mishra vowed to stop menace of the illegal fake gold trade and fake currency, six fake gold mafias surrendered before Lakhimpur Police. A helpline number -6000815799 was launched so that people can directly complain or inform about fake gold trade.

Director General of Police (DGP) Gyanendra Pratap Singh promised to take action in response to complaints of widespread fake gold and currency note syndicates during a press conference regarding the sudden and untimely death of Kaliabor sub-inspector (SI) Junmoni Rabha, which has sparked a significant uproar in Assam.

In response to GP Singh's threat to take tough action against these syndicates, 71 people have been arrested in the past 24 hours. Locals made additional claims about the involvement of police officers in the connection. In the meantime, Assam Police reorganised and appointed Anand Mishra as superintendent of police (SP) of Lakhimpur.

Moreover, earlier, the three suspects, identified as Saddam Hussain, Sariful Islam, and Gulzar Hussain, were apprehended by a team of police led by SP Anand Mishra during an operation at Balikata and Haripur, according to sources. The suspects were engaged in the state's illegal fake gold smuggling business for several days.

Meanwhile, few days back approximately 11 people were detained from the Sonitpur district for their suspected involvement in the smuggling of fake gold just one day after Assam DGP GP Singh vowed to "eliminate" the smuggling of fake currency notes and gold in Assam. According to sources, an operation was started as a result of a tip, and the suspects were then apprehended in several locations throughout the district, including Tezpur Borghat, Chariduar, and Bhalukjarani. Additionally, fake gold pieces were found in their possession.

The criminal investigation department (CID) seized alleged fake gold seller Asgar Ali on Friday (May 19), which is a significant milestone in relation to the investigation into the death case of Assam police SI Junmoni Rabha.

Since the unexpected passing of Assam police SI Junmoni Rabha, Asgar Ali is one of the names that has been making the news.

Asgar Ali suspected to be connected to the suspected relationship between police officers in the Lakhimpur area of Assam and the fake gold ring operating there.
