DIBRUGARH: A 60-year-old elderly man, who works as a milk- seller, was arrested on Wednesday for the alleged heinous crime of raping a minor girl in Dibrugarh district of Assam.
The arrested accused was identified as one Dhiren Dutta alias ‘Bata’. He is alleged to have raped the minor girl of around 13 years of age at a time when she was alone at her house.
The heinous incident was reported from Lakhinagar area in the district where the accused man, said to be a milk seller by profession, entered the house on the ruse of selling milk. He then forced himself on the minor girl, taking full advantage of the fact that she was staying alone in the house at the time of the incident.
Following unfolding of the incident, local police were informed and the accused criminal was promptly taken into custody.
After the arrest, a case under relevant sections of the IPC regarding the crime has been registered against him, police said.
A few days back, a man in Assam’s Sonapur was arrested for allegedly raping and murdering a 16-year-old minor girl. The accused, identified as Bablu Tumung, allegedly committed the heinous act on the hapless girl, murdered her and disposed of the body in the Digaru River.
The young woman had reportedly been missing since June 28, when she had gone to the market for some purchases. The authorities swiftly swung into action and apprehended the accused Bablu Tumung, booking him under relevant sections of the penal code.
Earlier on July 6, two girls were abducted and gang- raped by three criminals in Assam’s Hailakandi district. Following the crime, one of the victims- a 14-year-old girl- died of severe injuries after the rape by three men, police said. While two of the accused have been arrested, a hunt in on to nab the third.
According to the police, the incident took place on the evening of July 5 and the girl succumbed to her injuries while being taken for treatment to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) the next day. Subsequently, the body was handed over to the girl’s family after post-mortem examination, Hailakandi superintendent of police (SP) Leena Doley said.
Later, a first information report was registered against the three accused, all of them said to be in their 20s, based on the complaint of the girl’s family. A case was registered under sections 302 (murder), 363 (kidnapping) 376D (gang-rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections of the protection of children from sexual offences (POCSO) Act at the Mohanpur police station, a senior police officer said.
