BILASIPARA: Under the aegis of Bilasipara civil administration, the 77th Independence Day was observed at Bilasipara with traditional gaiety. In this connection, Manuranjan Payeng, ADC-cum-i/c SDO(Civil), Bilasipara hoisted the Tricolor in the Bilasipara Public Field followed by guard of honour by police, NCC, scouts and school students.

Thereafter, the SDO(civil) explained the significance of the day paying due honour to the freedom fighters. Local cultural troupes presented a few patriotic songs and dances. Illumination was done in the evening. The celebration of the day passed off peacefully. More than 5,000 students and the public gathered to watch the celebration.

DIBRUGARH: The 77th Independence Day was celebrated at Khanikor field in Dibrugarh with full enthusiasm. State Education Minister Ranoj Pegu hoisted the flag in presence of a large crowd.

Various dignitaries such as MLA of Dibrugarh, Prasanta Phukan, Dibrugarh District Commissioner Bikram Koiri, Dibrugarh SP Shwetank Mishra, Dibrugarh Municipal Board chairman Dr Saikat Patra and other high-ranking officials were present during the programme. Cultural programmes were held at the Khanikor field after the speech of the Ranoj Pegu.

On the other hand, Delhi Public School Dibrugarh celebrated the 77th Independence Day of India with great zeal and exhilaration. To commemorate the occasion, a grand function was organised in the school. The chief guest, Mahavir Prasad Jain, founder of Gyan Ved Foundation, parent body of Delhi Public School Dibrugarh, hoisted the national flag along with Pro Vice Chairman CA Sanjay Jain, Board Member Banita Jain and Angel Jain and Principal of the School, Probhati Biswas.

SIVASAGAR: Along with the rest of the country, the 77th Independence Day of India was celebrated with a day-long programme in Sivasagar on Tuesday. Minister of PHED, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Tourism departments, Jayanta Mallabaruah formally hoisted the national flag while participating as the chief guest in the central function of Independence Day organized at the historic Boarding Field under the aegis of Sivasagar district administration.

Earlier, the minister participated in the swahid tarpan programme held at the Anandaram Baruah Park and Swahid Piyoli Phukan Park to commemorate the brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of India. After hoisting the Tricolour, he received the salute from the police, paramilitary forces and cadets of scouts and guides who participated in the parade.

In his address as the chief guest in presence of District Commissioner Aditya Vikram Yadav and Superintendent of Police Shubhrajyoti Bora, the minister recalled the supreme sacrifice of the country’s brave martyrs, freedom fighters and also recalled the courage and valour of the security forces deployed in the border and internal security of the country.

Mallabaruah said that there is immense potential to make the heritage town of Sivasagar a world tourist destination like Stratford-upon-Avon in England, the birthplace of William Shakespeare. In his address, he spoke about the welfare schemes taken by the Central and State governments for the development of the district and sought full cooperation of the people for their successful implementation.

The minister said that the district administration has been giving priority to speedy and effective implementation of schemes under the departments of education, health, rural development and agriculture and its allied sectors, industry, commerce, power, roads, public health engineering, transport etc. of the district.

After this, the chief guest gave away prizes to the winners of various competitions organized on the occasion of Independence Day, persons who excelled in various fields, winning teams participating in parades. He then visited the exhibition stalls set up by various departments at Boarding Field and also addressed the media at the field.

Thousands of people were present at the Independence Day function along with Thowra MLA Sushanta Borgohain, invited distinguished guests, officials of the district administration and heads of various departments.
