DIGBOI: Along with the rest of the country, the people of Digboi also celebrated the 77th Independence Day of the nation on Tuesday. Although the rains cause some minor hurdles, the event was successfully carried out during the day with the local MLA hoisting the National Flag on the occasion.

The central celebration of the 77th Independence Day for the Digboi town was organised in the Jubilee playground of the town. The event was organised by the National Festival Celebration Committee and it saw the attendance of a large number of people from the region. Member of the Assam Legislative Assembly from the Digboi constituency, Suren Phukan also attended the event.

A colourful event, including a cultural presentation, was organised to mark the celebrations. Local students presented multiple songs and dances as a part of the celebration.

Doomdooma, which is not located far from Digboi, also saw a great celebration of the 77th Independence Day. The circle officer for the Doomdooma revenue circle Ranmoi Bharadwaj led the celebrations in Doomdooma by hoisting the National Flag. The main event was organised at the public playground of the town and saw the presentation of multiple cultural shows.

Also, the 77th Independence Day of the country was celebrated with great enthusiasm in the South Salmara Mankachar district of the state.

The main celebration was organised by the district administration in South Salmara Mankachar on the Hatsingimari bus stand premises. On the occasion of the 77th Independence Day, District Commissioner Bikash Chandra Bhagawati hoisted the Indian National Flag on the premises on the occasion.

Thousands of local people, including hundreds of students participated in this event. The Member of the Assam Legislative Assembly from Mankachar, Aminul Islam also took part in this celebration.

During his speech, the District Commissioner spoke about various welfare schemes of the government and about how they have benefited the local people of the district. He also remembered the martyrs who laid down their lives for the independence of their country from the ruling British forces. He also mentioned that the people of the country should never forget the sacrifices made by our forefathers so that we can now live in India as free people. He also requested everyone to work towards making the country a better place to live in.
