NAGAON: The 85th birth anniversary of Mukut Chandra Bhuyan, a noted selfless as well as dedicated social activist and newspaper distributor, was observed at Nagaon Press Club recently. The celebration of his birth anniversary was initiated by a group of close elite friends and associates of Bhuyan led by noted poet and physician Dr Prayag Saikia, film critic Parthajit Boruah, noted instrumentalist Birinchi Bora, Nijara Saikia and others.
A commemoration programme on his life and contribution towards the society of the town was organized at the club auditorium. Dwijendra Nath Hazarika chaired the programme while Dr Prayag Saikia delivered the welcome address. The programme was initiated with lightning the earthen lamp at the portrait of Mukut Chandra Bhuyan by Dilip Hazarika.
Noted filmmaker and film critic Parthajit Boruah spoke on the life and contribution of Bhuyan towards the society and asserted that Bhuyan was a great storyteller. The evergreen song of great musical maestro Dr Bhupen Hazarika, ‘Manuhe Manuhor Babe’ was performed by a local group of artistes under the leadership of Birinchi Bora.
During the programme, the attendees took a decision to approach the next of kin of Mukut Bhuyan for the donation of a piece of land to build an auditorium or institute in memory of public figure, Haladhar Bhuyan, the father of Mukut Chandra Bhuyan.
