GUWAHATI: Nine students were dismissed from the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) Examination in Laharighat in the Morigaon district of Assam.

On Thursday, the incident happened at the Laharighat Higher Secondary School. Eight female students and one male student are among the expelled students.

The expulsion of the pupils was due to their use of unethical tactics to pass their social science exam. Samima Aktara, Mehima Begum, Kasima Khatun, Salma Khatun, Tara Banu, Sahil Alom, Mousumi Begum, Ruptaz Jahan, and Martuja Begum are among the expelled pupils.

In a similar incident, two HSLC candidates were expelled from the S. Ali Higher Secondary School in Sukchar, South Salmara Mankachar district. The candidates were dismissed for employing unethical methods to take the test.

In the meantime, the exams for the social science subject were held on Thursday at the JR Higher Secondary School center in Ganirgram, Cachar district, under rigorous supervision and with tight security measures.

According to reports, candidates were screened by metal detectors before entering the exam room. On the first and second days of the HSLC exam, there were a number of irregularities reported from the testing facility.

Significantly, the Board of Secondary Education (SEBA) had stated that all 760 students from the JR Upper Secondary School center would need to retake the English subject in the Compartmental Test 2023, which will be held as soon as possible.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, gave the order after learning of the cheating and paper leak events and requesting that SEBA take action against the testing locations where such instances are occurring.

Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday that the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination has been cancelled in the centres where the cheating issue occurred.

For the applicants from these centres, separate exams will be held. The Gonirgram Higher Secondary Examination Center in the Cachar district, where the cheating instances occurred, has been named as one of the testing sites.

On the other hand, Union High School in the district had up to 50 mobile phones retrieved from HSLC candidates, which led to the cancellation of the exam at this centre as well.
