Guwahati:  An amount of approx. 90,000 US dollars was recovered by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) from a domestic air passenger travelling to Imphal. The incident took place around 9:30 am on September 1. This would amount to approx. 65,70,000 in Indian currency. An addition of Rs. 3950 INR was also recovered from the passenger.

The 25-year-old passenger has been identified as Arbajuddin and was travelling from Imphal to Delhi transit at Guwahati. He was travelling by flight no. 15783. He was caught smuggling the US currency during the screening of his two handbags. One of the bags was found to be suspicious by the on-duty screener, ASI Exe SK Singh, and was called for a physical check.

The bag was further checked by on-duty baggage checking officer SI Dalip Kumar.

No objectionable item was found prima facie. However, a false bottom was later discovered in the bag after a thorough check.

The passenger has claimed that he has no knowledge of such a layer.

Upon further investigation, the false bottom was checked with the consent of the passenger. US dollars amounting to approx. 90,000 dollars (approx. 65,7000) was recovered along with an additional amount of Rs. 3950.

The passenger has refused to acknowledge his intention of smuggling the US currency. He is currently under the custody of custom oficials.
