The Aadhar Enrollment Centres in Assam are to remain shut up until 5th June 2021. 

This decision was taken keeping in mind the surge in the number of COVID-19 cases. The state administration considered making this decision as a preventative measure against the deadly infectious disease.

As of Saturday, Assam reported 5,613 fresh cases of COVID-19 infections, taking the tally of active cases in the state to 54,948. In the last 24 hours, Assam reported 77 more COVID-19 induced fatalities, taking the death toll in the state to 3,245.

Tinsukia reported 11 cases of fatalities; followed by Cachar with 7; Barpeta, Kamrup Metro and Nagaon with 5 each; Dibrugarh and Karbi Anglong with 4 each; Baksa, Darrang, Dhubri, Jorhat, Sivasagar and Sonitpur with 3 each; Hojai, Hailakandi, Kamrup rural, Karimganj, Lakhimpur and Morigaon with 2 each; and 1 each from Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Charaideo, Dima Hasao, Golaghat and South Salmara. 

Kamrup Metro remains the highest COVID hit district in Assam with 580 new cases, followed by Cachar with 516, Dibrugarh with 352, and Kamrup Rural with 338. 

While the positivity rate for the virus is 4.82%, the recovery rate is 85.25%. 

Within a week's span, two elected members of Assam Vidhan Sabha succumbed to the deadly infectious disease. 

Leho Ram Boro, an MLA from the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL), a BJP partner in the state cabinet, died on Saturday after testing positive for Covid. He was 63 years old.

Majendra Narzary, a member of the Gossaigaon assembly constituency, died of post-Covid complications on Wednesday.
