Assam: AASU Members Undertake a 10 Hours Fast in Protest of Inflation

BISWANATH: The members of the All Assam Students Union (AASU) staged a protest against the inflation in prices of essential commodities in recent times. They organised a 10-hour fast on Tuesday as a mark of protest against the state government.

The protesters who denied having food during this duration mentioned that the concerned departments of the state government have failed to regulate the prices of essential commodities, especially food items. And that has caused a massive problem for the lower and medium-income groups of the country. They mentioned the increase in pieces of fruits, vegetables, grains, lentils, edible oils and cooking gas in recent times and pointed out that this inflation has hurt the masses. They also demanded immediate action to ensure that the prices of these commodities can be bought under control as soon as possible.

The activists of the North Lakhimpur regional unit of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Parishad (AJYP), led by president Manoj Kalita and general secretary in charge Prabin Hazong, initiated a stir to protest against sky-rocketing prices of the essential commodities in the State. The activists of the organization burnt the effigy of Supply Minister Ranjeet Dass alleging his miserable failure in controlling the price hike. The organization demanded his immediate step down by owning his moral responsibility in this regard.

Taking part in the demonstration, Lakhimpur district unit AJYP general secretary Mobin Ahmed made a scathing attack on Ranjeet Dass and alleged that the Supply Minister had no time and patience to think about the people of the State. “The Supply Minister has plunged in self-satisfaction by uploading his picture of practising yogasana in social media at a time when people of the State have to suffer a lot due to sky-rocketing prices of almost all the commodities,” Mobin Ahmed said. The organization demanded the Government of Assam to control the price hike with immediate effect.
