GUWAHATI: In a heart-wrenching incident that unfolded in the early hours of the morning in Seuj Nagar, Kakatigaon, Jorhat District, Assam, locals were stirred by the cries of an abandoned newborn in a field. Promptly responding to the distress, the community came together to rescue the helpless infant, ensuring a ray of hope amid the shadows.

The rescued newborn was swiftly admitted to Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH) for essential medical care. The incident echoes a disturbing trend, as a similar occurrence occurred in August of the same year in Jorhat district.

In the prior incident, a young couple from Jorhat allegedly handed over their newborn to a bewildered 17-year-old teenager before vanishing from the scene. The bewildered teenager found himself holding an infant, completely unaware of the couple's motives.

Caught in uncertainty, the teenager rushed home, baby in arms, and shared the bizarre encounter with his mother. Concerned for the infant's well-being, they promptly sought medical attention, initially visiting a nearby hospital before being referred to JMCH.

According to the teenager's account, the couple approached him casually, requesting him to hold the baby. Without a second thought, the couple hastily departed, turning a deaf ear to the teenager's calls. The incident left the community in shock and disbelief.

Local authorities have been notified, and an investigation is underway to unravel the circumstances surrounding these distressing events. The recurring nature of such incidents raises concerns about parental responsibility, shedding light on the need for community awareness and support systems.

As the rescued newborn receives medical care, the community grapples with the implications of such heartrending occurrences. The incidents serve as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by vulnerable infants and the importance of fostering a society that safeguards the well-being of its youngest members.
