Assam: Acid Attack in Dhekiajuli, Victim Admitted in ICU

TEZPUR: An incident of acid attack took place in the Dhekiajuli region of the state on Sunday. The attacker has been named as one Batsu Kar. He later surrendered at the Dhekiajuli Police Station belonging to the Sonitpur district of Assam.

According to a statement given by the victim's father, he is the landlord of a commercial establishment where Batsu Kar has a shop. He could not think of any reason for the attacker to take this extreme step. He also mentioned that he was not aware of any relation between the two.

He added that the incident took place around noon of the day when the victim was leaving for her duty on her two-wheeler. Batsu Kar told her to stop on the pretext of talking, following which he threw the chemical at her. The incident took place near the weekly market in the Sapoi Bagan region.

According to reports, Batsu Kar bought the reactive chemical in a bottle. The victim received severe acid burn injuries in several parts of her body including her hand, leg, neck, back, head and hair.

Her father mentioned he was taken to a local medical establishment, from where she was shifted to GATE Sukhada Hospital located in Tezpur for better treatment. She is currently in the intensive care unit of the hospital.

Although the police officials abstained from revealing any details regarding the incident, they have mentioned that investigations are going on and proper legal action has been initiated regarding matters.

Local MLA and Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Irrigation in Assam took stock of the situation and asked the authorities to take stringent action regarding the incident.

This is one of the latest crime-related incidents across the state. The crime rate has increased manifold in recent times in Assam. In the capital city of Guwahati, robberies and chain snatching has become an almost daily happening.
