In a major accomplishment for the Assamese cinema, talented actor Benjamin Daimary has been recently nominated for the 12th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2021 which is to be held at Melbourne.

Benjamin Daimary has been nominated for his film Jonaki Porua, while actor Harish Khanna was nominated for his film God on the Balcony.

It may be mentioned that, Benjamin Daimary is the first openly gay actor in the film fraternity to be nominated at the Indian Film Festival. He has been open about his sexual orientation and this has kept him into the headline often. Daimary, who has won accolades for his superb acting has also won the Jury's special award for his role in Jonaki Porua in 2021 along with Best Actor Award at the Asian Queer Film Festival last year in 2020.



Notably, the film God on the Balcony has also received accolades as it has been additionally nominated for two more categories, namely Best Indie Film and Best Director. The film has been directed by Biswajit Bora.

Meanwhile, the 12th IFFM 2021 will be streamed digitally owing to the COVID 19 protocols from August 15 to August 30. The film festival would stream over 100 films during the global event.
