LAKHIMPUR: The students of Assam Agricultural University (AAU), Jorhat, attaining Rural Agricultural Work Experience Programe (RAWEP), stationed in Lakhimpur, conducted a visit to Hariga Farms as a part of their course curriculum. A total of 36 students were present in the enterprise visit to the farm, located at Kari Pukhuri, under the district. The owner of the Hariga Farm, Manash Hazarika had established it with European style of housing of piggery farm in 2018. The farm provides the best possible care right from the beginning which ensures production of healthy piglets with efficient and optimum utilization of resources and results in Round-The-Year availability of quality piglets at the most reasonable prices. The scientific regulatory measures are being strictly followed with proper sanitation methods. The students held a thorough discussion with the farm owner regarding the establishment, breeding, production process and the problems faced. Breeding of Yorkshire, Hampshire and Duroc is done in the farm. The feeding system is manual and the pigs feeds on Best Dry Feed. Gobar gas plant will be soon installed for waste management purpose. The major challenge faced is the electricity cut-off which is frequently observed in this region and is one of the prime factor in regulating the well functioning of the enterprise.

Earlier, these AAU students, on the occasion of the National Panchayati Raj Day, conducted a one-day training programme on mushroom cultivation that highlighted the importance of nutritional and medicinal value, culture preparation and preservation techniques, farm-design and infrastructure for a commercial mushroom growing unit and sources of information for various inputs and guidance on mushroom cultivation. The event was organized at Uriampara village under Bihpuria Revenue Circle.
