MANGALDAI: The Assam Agriculture Commission (AAC) - a state level body formed to explore healthy alternatives to commercial agricultural productions has warned the fertilizer traders regarding selling of chemical fertilizers banned by the government and also apprised them about the possible legal actions against erring traders violating the provisions of the law already in force. Dr Nalin Kumar Mohan and Pranjal Prakash Sarma, both members of the Commission have made their maiden visit to the district on Thursday.
During the visit, they held a meeting with the leading farmers, office bearers of the market committees, farmers producer companies (FPC), license holder fertilizer dealers of the locality at the PWD Inspection Bungalow, Kharupetia in presence of District Agriculture Officer Bidyut Kumar Talukdar, Agriculture Sub Division Officer (Mangaldai) Dibakar Deka and others.
Both the members of the Commission discussed on the possible evil effects on the health of the consumers of the agriculture products following unscientific use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides with the motive of additional production and extra profit. They also sensitized the participants about the stringent actions that may follow in such dishonest practices. They also apprised the participants about the commercial benefits of organic practices in the agriculture and regarding their proposal to the government for setting up farmers training centre for organic farming. Later on the day they also visited the whole and retail vegetable market at Besimari and took stock of the market prices of different vegetables and other agri products.
