GUWAHATI: On Friday, 29 October Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the state has made the target of completing the process of vaccination by 15 January 2022.

The important announcement was made at Assam Administration Staff College during the inauguration of the project "Mission Sadbhavna".

The Government of Assam aims in completing of COVID vaccination of all the people eligible for taking the vaccine. An estimation made is around 2.1 crore population with both first and second doses of vaccine by the month of January next year.

CM Sarma said in a press conference that following the target made the first dose of the vaccine for those above the age of 18 years will be completed by 20 November. Chief Minister added that the state has provided 2.78 crores of vaccine injections to the people of Assam of which 77 lakh are fully vaccinated with both doses. The state has 2.1 crores of people eligible for vaccine and 2, 00, 76, 00 of them are done with the first dose.

The Chief Minister added that all those above 18 years who are concerned about vaccination are done with the first dose and the existing 10 lakh are regarded by CM as the resistant population who do not want to take the vaccine or some senior citizen unable to come on centers to take the vaccine. At present, the State Government is targeting these remaining 10 lakh population as per the target of finishing the process by 20 November. The state has decided to start the door-to-door vaccination drive for seven days in places that are located in interior locations. CM said that if this can be done the process of completing vaccination for all eligible with both doses can be completed by 15 January 2022.

On the inauguration of the project "Mission Sadbhavna", CM added that there are a registration population in West Karbi Anglong and Karbi Anglong and people living in these regions are not at all willing to take vaccine therefore the Government has made the target of completing vaccination to people of these areas by 15 of November.

CM Sarma hoped that when the state gets fully vaccinated, they can protect themselves from the upcoming third wave of the Coronavirus pandemic. The third wake cannot affect much if the state is done with both the doses of COVID-19 Vaccine.
