GUWAHATI: The Hojai police arrested a man for, allegedly, stealing mustard oil from a shop. The accused has been identified as one Debashis Dey from Samarbasti, Hojai.

According to the investigating police, Debashish and two of his accomplices stole some packets of mustard oil from a shop located in the Lalmati area, Hojai.

The police recovered 16-liter Engine brand mustard oil from him. Meanwhile, his two accomplices are on the run. The arrested accused was also involved in an LPG cylinders theft from a local Kali Mandir.

According to the police, Debashish stole two cylinders from the mandir. The police also recovered one cylinder from him.

Notably, in recent days, the country has been a massive spike in the price of edible oil as well as other commodities including fuel oil and LPG price.

On the other hand, the prices of almost all medicines have been rising during the last two to three months. As of date, a strip of 'Shelcal-500' is selling at the rate of Rs 108.70. Just two to three months back, this strip was sold at Rs 98.90.

"A common man cannot afford fuel and mustard oil at the same time. Fuel prices hit a century while mustard oil has crossed double century," says Pradip Deka, a businessman who can no longer afford to regularly use his motorcycle, and instead now used a bicycle as his regular mode of transportation.
