Guwahati: With a literacy rate of 85.9 percent, Assam ranks fifth in the entire nation among states, revealed information from a report on education compiled by the National Statistical Office (NSO).
Kerala has once again ranked as the most educated state in India with 96.2%, followed by 88.7% in the national capital Delhi, 87.6% in Uttarakhand, and 86.6% in Himachal Pradesh.
As indicated by the report, the southern state of Andhra Pradesh has ranked the worst among all states in India regarding literacy rate, behind Bihar's 70.9%. While Andhra's literacy rate is at 66.4%, Telangana's is 72.8%, which is more much lesser than the national average of 77.7% ,and Karnataka's is 77.2%.
In Assam, the gap among male and female literacy is of 8.9 rate points, with male literacy at 90.1% and female literacy at 81.2%.
