HAFLONG: Like every year, this year also Amur Falcons, the longest-travelled migratory birds, have started their arrival at New Tumbung near Umrangso this week.

Amur Falcons come each year during the months of October and November to roost at Tumbung village near Umrangso in Dima Hasao. With the arrival of the Amur falcons, forest officials like CCF, M Tngnung, DFO, Tuhin Langthasa, and Range Officer Donmai Thaosen made an official visit to the roosting hub to ensure the safety of these migratory birds and amenities for tourists and bird lovers. Forest officials have ensured that no one can disturb these birds.

Following awareness campaigns by the forest officials, NGOs and locals, no bird is killed or disturbed during their roosting. To create awareness among the people about the conservation of Amur Falcons, an annual event named ‘Falcon Festival’ is organized every year at Umrangso. This year, the Falcon Festival will be organized in December.
