Guwahati: On his third visit to Assam, Union Home Minister Amit Shah asserted that Assam and Northeast will emerge as the highest contributor to the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Taking a jibe at the Congress, Shah who is on a visit to the state ahead of the Assam Assembly Elections 2021 said that Assam along with the entire has witnessed development under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He further stated that Assam was earlier known for arms, agitation and violence, however, under the BJP led government it will be known for 'development, investment, education and tourism thereby contributing immensely to the nation's GDP'.
Shah further stated that under the Modi led BJP government a new era has initiated in Assam and the journey will continue to make Assam 'flood-free, violence-free and infiltrator free'.
Shah said this after attending the 'Mahayagya' at the Shivling shaped Maha Mritunjaya temple that is believed to be the world's tallest temple in the world.
"It was a privilege to participate in the Pran Pratishtha Festival of 126 feet high Shivalinga at the Mahamrityunjaya temple in Nagaon (Assam)", Shah said in a tweet.
Shah arrived in Guwahati on Wednesday night where he was received by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Cabinet Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The Home Minister will visit the Bordowa Satra, the birthplace of saint-scholar and socio-religious reformer Srimanta Sankardev and attend a public rally.
He will be later addressing a unity, peace and development rally at the Denarong in Karbi Anglong district where a peace agreement with five militant outfits of the region, which laid down arms on Tuesday, is expected to be inked, as per reports.
Attacking the 'grand alliance' the minister said that congress joined hands with other parties only because of its 'lust for power'. Commenting on the newly formed parties the home minister said that it is an attempt to reduce BJPs vote share to benefit Congress. Shah further asserted that BJP and its alliance AGP will form the next government with a two-third majority in the state.
With the upcoming election, political parties have intensified their campaigning in the state. Elections for the 126 member assembly are likely to be held in April this year.
