The PGI plays a significant role when it comes to analyzing the school education system. It reflects on the areas where improvement and up-gradation is needed. The performance grading index (PGI) is based on 70 indicators and two categories with five domains. Access (A), Learning Outcome (LO), Governance Process (GP), Infrastructure and Facilities (IF), and Equity (E) are the five realm on the basis of which scores are given. This is a unique comprehensive analysis of the education system according to a report.

Manipur, Meghalaya and Nagaland stood in the 6th rank while Arunachal Pradesh was ranked down to the 7th level. The data for PGI is drawn from several sources which also includes the all India survey as well. As of now not a single state of the country could attain the highest rank. Even in the early years of survey the country couldn't achieve the top most level in regards to the school education system.

The scores obtained by Mizoram is somewhere between 751-800 holding the 5th rank, whereas Manipur, Meghalaya and Nagaland were somewhere between 701-750. Arunachal being at the lowest level attained 651-700.

In an interview the education ministry said that the prime intention of the PGI is to motivate and uplift the states and union territories to inculcate new and efficient education outcomes. Evidently, PGI helps the states to rectify their shortcomings in their respective education system and ensures that each and every school comes out with flourishing ideas for the purpose of betterment.
