GUWAHATI : In a tragic episode on 1st of January, a BJP worker died after his vehicle got hit by a dumper. The dumper was carrying sand in it and the incident took place in Assam's Cachar district. 

The BJP worker has been identified as Sohail Ahmed. According to the reports, the sand carrying dumper rammed into Sohail's vehicle in Udharbond area of Cachar. 

However, the deceased could not get any medical treatment as he died on the way to hospital. He was supposed to be admitted in Silchar Medical College and Hospital. The public got extremely agitated by such an unfortunate death of the BJP member, hence created an uncontrollable situation. 

A group of people got triggered by the occurrence, as a result of which they battered and torched the dumper. A team of police rushed to the spot after receiving information about the chaos. 

On 31st of December during midnight, 3 youths died in a road accident in Assam's Silchar district. According to sources, the tragic accident took place after the biker lost control of his vehicle. The deceased who died on spot were identified as Akshay Kumar Biswas, Swapan Das and Kishan Gurung.

In another such incident, two people identified as Prabin Maliya and Deben Bora died on spot. As per sources, a bike and a scooty collided with each other which led to the accident.

The episode took place in Dhamdhuli village situated near Tenga Pukhuri. The accident occurred on the first day of 2023.

It is worth mentioning that, there has been a significant decline in road mishaps in 2022 as compared to the prior years. The prime reason behind this progress is the strict drink and drive protocols by the state administration.

Apart from Assam, road accident cases during New Year's eve has been reported from other states as well. A constable from Raipur died after his motorbike hit a truck while he was approaching towards his duty. Although he was rushed to a nearby hospital but he could not survive. The deceased constable has been identified as Sandeep Tirkey.
