Assam: Animal health camp organized in Dibrugarh district

A day-long animal health camp was organized by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Dibrugarh in collaboration with the district veterinary office here at Natun Bharali goan under Khowang development block of Dibrugarh district under the guidance of Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Dibrugarh Dr. Diganta Sharmah.

DIBRUGARH: A day-long animal health camp was organized by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Dibrugarh in collaboration with the district veterinary office here at Natun Bharali goan under Khowang development block of Dibrugarh district under the guidance of Senior Scientist and Head of KVK Dibrugarh Dr. Diganta Sharmah. The programme was duly supported by the Directorate of Extension Education Assam Agricultural University Jorhat and Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute Guwahati Office. The programme was inaugurated by the course director of the programme, Dr.Sanghamitra Sarma who is also a Subject Matter Specialist in plant protection of KVK Dibrugarh.

As a part of inter-departmental effective collaboration, the district veterinary officer Dr.H.K Baruah provided effective support in the form of some medicines and technical manpower expertise in veterinary science for making the programme a successful one for the betterment of farming community of the locality. The veterinary experts who provided their clinical services to farm animals of Natun Bharali Gaon where animal health camp was conducted were- veterinary officer Dr.Udipta Borthakur, Veterinary Field Assistants Budha Sonowal,Buranji Tye and Smrita Sonowal. Dr.Hemchandra Saikia who looked after the animal health camp at field informed The Sentinel that the rearing of farm animals is a very potential business entity for our rural farmers communinity capable of yielding remunerative production, return and employment provided this very activity is done on a sound, scientific and commercial way.

Moreover there is great market demand for meat, egg and milk within the district and across the district of Assam. Hence, due scientific intervention is very essential and fruitful to convert our supplementary source of income to a very commercial source of remunerative income of our rural farm families. The camp covered 311 farm animal mostly cattle and goat of 50 farm families.
