LUMDING: Officials from the Railways department carried out an operation in the office of the Manager of the Lumding Railway Divisional and managed to catch an officer red-handed while taking a bribe. The culprit was identified as K Samantha Roy. He was serving as Chief Loco Inspector when this operation was carried out and he was responsible for the appointment and transfer of the Loco Pilots of the Indian railways, for which used to demand bribes. He was suspended immediately by the Divisional officer after the arrest.

It has been alleged that the accused has been collecting huge amounts in bribes from the employees under the Senior Electrical Engineer as well as the newly posted employees as he was caught red-handed while accepting over Rs 1 lakh as a bribe. It has also been questioned as to how a person engaged in a simple government job could have created property worth crores of rupees.

Also, several victims of such incidents mentioned that they had put forward complaints against the accused to the competent authorities, but no action was taken against him as he was protected by officials in senior positions.

Meanwhile, the Railways Department as well as the Anti Corruption officials have started an investigation regarding the accused. And this is the second similar incident that has been reported from the division within a month.

Previously, the vigilance department carried out a raid on the office of the Lumding Railway Divisional officer. The operation was carried out in the Personnel Department section of the office. One officer of the Indian railways was reportedly arrested after being caught red-handed for accepting a bribe during this operation. The identity of the accused was mentioned to be Pabitra Konwar, who was employed as the Superintendent of the Personnel Department. The officials of the vigilance department had reportedly received complaints regarding the person and planned to catch him red-handed while committing the crime.
