DIBRUGARH: Kordoibam-based Krishi Vigyan Kendra Dibrugarh under Lahoal Development Block, celebrated the Hindi Diwas at its office premise on Thursday with a host of activities like essay competition, extempore speech, recitation of poem, all in the Hindi language.

In his welcome address, Dr Diganta Sharmah, senior scientist and head of the Kendra, urged the participants to make the Hindi language popular in their life. Felicitation of guests was done by Dr Hemchandra Saikia, Dr Sangita Bora Saikia and Shantonu Paul of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra here.

Dr Rupjyoti Borah, Senior Extension Specialist in Soil Science from Assam Agricultural University Jorhat, who graced the occasion as chief guest, enlightened the participant students about the reason for celebrating Hindi Diwas on September 14 every year since 1953 to commemorate Hindi as the official language of India.

Another senior extension specialist of Community Scientist, Dr Arifam Momtaz Begam from Assam Agricultural University Jorhat also informed the participants to give due importance in making Hindi popular in day-to-day life.

Nayanta Gohain, Headmistress of Phulampur High School of Phutahola, delivered a lecture. The resource persons who acted as judges in all three categories of competitions viz. Extempore speech, poetry recitation and essay competition organized on the occasion of Hindi Diwas were Nayanta Gohain, Bandita Kunwar, Hemanta Dutta, Dr Hemchandra Saikia and Chayanika Thakuria.
