Assam: Army Officer and Wife Arrested for Alleged Torture of Minor in Haflong

GUWAHATI: An Army officer identified as Major Shailendra Yadav and his wife Kimmy Ralson have been apprehended on allegations of subjecting a minor child from Haflong in Dima Hasao district to torture. The couple was taken into custody by the Dima Hasao police and subsequently presented before the court of the Haflong judicial magistrate, which ordered their judicial custody.

Kimmy Ralson, originally from Haflong in Dima Hasao district, had married Major Shailendra Yadav during his posting in the hill town. When Major Yadav was transferred to Palampur in Himachal Pradesh, his wife Kimmy Ralson brought the minor girl along with her to Himachal Pradesh to assist with household chores.

Disturbingly, it is alleged that during the minor girl's stay at the couple's residence in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, she was subjected to physical torture. The extent of the abuse and its traumatic impact on the child is currently under investigation. Fortunately, the child has been reunited with her family in Haflong, Assam, and is currently receiving medical care at the Haflong Civil Hospital in Dima Hasao district.

The legal consequences for the Army officer and his wife are severe. They have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including section 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, designed to protect minors from sexual exploitation, and section 3 of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, which seeks to prevent atrocities against individuals belonging to these marginalized communities.

The case has been registered at the Haflong police station in Dima Hasao district of Assam, where law enforcement officials are diligently investigating the allegations against the couple. This incident has sent shockwaves through the community and raised concerns about the safety and welfare of minors in such situations.

In the wake of these distressing events, local authorities and child protection agencies are working together to ensure the child receives the necessary medical care and support. Furthermore, this case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and the protection of vulnerable individuals, particularly children, within our society.

The arrest and subsequent legal proceedings against Major Shailendra Yadav and Kimmy Ralson underscore the commitment of law enforcement agencies to ensure justice is served, especially when it concerns the welfare of minors. As the investigation unfolds, it is hoped that the truth will emerge, and those responsible for any wrongdoing will be held accountable under the law.
