GUWAHATI : A shocking incident came to light, where a woman was killed by four people and kidnapped her child in Upper Assam. As per the police report, the four accused included a couple, their son and the victim's own mother.
The couple involved in the case intended to hand over the baby to their own daughter who was childless, police stated. A team of police found the deceased's body from a drain at Rajabari Tea Estate in Charaideo district on Tuesday.
Reportedly, the murdered woman was mentally-challenged and has been identified as Nitumoni Lukhurakhon of Kenduguri Bailung village. According to reports, the woman had gone missing on Monday from Simaluguri market. Her baby was found in a inter-state bus station in Jorhat. The recovery was done by a joint operation team from Simaluguri, Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat.
According to the police, the accused had pre-planned to transfer the baby to Himachal Pradesh as the daughter of the arrested couple stays there. Nonetheless, based on a prior information, police detained two people from Simaluguri railway station on Tuesday.
The accused has been identified as Pranali Gogoi and her husband Basanta Gogoi. Following the arrest of these two, a team of police apprehended their son, Prashanta Gogoi along with the deceased's mother, Boby Lukhurakhon. The accused allegedly planned the entire process, as they kidnapped Nitumoni and her baby, with an intention to send the baby to Himachal Pradesh.
While the couple got caught by the Police, their son boarded a train along with the child. However, he failed to escape and was arrested from the train itself. This revelation was made by Subhrajyoti Borah, a senior police in Sivasagar.
He further informed that, Nitumoni was invited by the accused couple in the name of offering some work. When they tried to snatch away her baby, she fought back, as a result of which the couple killed her with a blunt object.
