JAMUGURIHAT: As the day of Biswakarma Puja draws near, a festive atmosphere has gripped the hearts and minds of people.

Normally, the Biswakarma Puja paves a way for other pujas in the country. The clay artists of Jamugurihat area are busy in giving the final touches to the idols of Lord Biswakarma. They have been working round-the-clock to accomplish their task and to hand over the ordered idols to the devotees in advance. The clay artisans of Sri Krishna Shilpalaya, Jamugurihat have prepared nearly 60 idols of Lord Biswakarma this time. It is to be mentioned here that Sri Krishna Shilpalaya is one of the oldest clay modelling houses of the greater Jamugurihat area.

Similarly, Gopal Borkataky, another clay artist of Jamugurihat, has prepared nearly 90 idols of Biswakarma for this session as per the demand and requirements of the devotees. Talking to this correspondent, Borkataky said that he has received orders from Sootea, Biswanath Chariali and various parts of the Sonitpur district. He has been in this profession for 20 years and runs his family with the income from this profession. He has kept 10 assistants. He further added that the initial process for preparation of the idols of Goddess Durga has also started.
