GUWAHATI: A team of artistes from Assam who had gone to Nongstoin to shoot the video of an Assamese song, were looted by unidentified youth on the Tura-Shillong highway on Sunday.

According to the artistes' version of events, they were looted near Nongstoin area in Meghalaya by a group of youth.

Nongstoin, the headquarters of the West Khasi Hills district, is located about 95 kms by road from Shillong, on the Tura- Shillong road. It is a popular destination for video shoots, with several picturesque sites like Nongkhnum Island, Wah Rilang, Kyllang Rock, Mawthadraishan Peak, Symper Rock, Pamphyrnai Lake and War Lake, among others located nearby.

A group of three miscreants allegedly came in a red- coloured Alto car and accosted them. The miscreants looted a sum amount of Rs. 6,000 including a pair of shades from the choreographer.

The nine- member artistes' team comprised actress Priyanka Saikia, another actor, director, producer, and make-up artists.

A member of the team said, "Three young boys came in a red car and stopped us when we were leaving the shooting spot. We were nine people, including the actor, actress, director, producer, and make-up artists. They threatened us and snatched our car keys, asking for vehicle documents." They were forced to shell out an amount of Rs 6,000 to get the car keys and documents back, they complained.

The victims suspected that the miscreants might have been under the influence of alcohol when they committed the crime.

The team has lodged a complaint in Boko Police Station in Assam. The police has launched an investigation regarding the incident and also forwarded the complaint to Nongstoin police.

The artistes also appealed to the Meghalaya government to look into such matters so that tourists to the state do not suffer. Meghalaya police is reportedly investigating the matter.
