Lakhimpur: A tense situation along the Assam-Arunachal boundary prevails in the Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts. After the digging of two big ponds covering several hectares of land belonging to Assam in Dropang area under Narayanpur Revenue Circle of Lakhimpur district, which came into light on July 5, the Arunachali aggressors, this time, have exposed their aggressive attitude in the Joyrampur area in Dhemaji district. As per information, the Arunachali aggressors attempted to construct residential houses, farm houses and other infrastructure by encroaching upon the land of Assam at Panbari in the Joyrampur area under Gogamukh Revenue Circle of the district.

In that place, the Arunachali aggressors had been conducting farming activities on Assam land by installing iron-wire fencing, taking advantage of the lack of any initiative on the part of Dhemaji district administration and the Assam Government to check their aggression.

On Thursday and Friday morning, the local people protested against the aggressive attitude of the Arunachali people and stopped them from encroaching upon the land of Assam further. At this, some unidentified aggressors from across the border allegedly indulged in blank fire to threaten the people of Assam and to create panic.

Later, the Circle Officer of the Gogamukh Revenue Circle, a DSP of Dhemaji district, along with the Officer-in-charge of Gogamukh Police Station, visited the area on Friday. At present, a tense situation prevails in the disputed area.
