Assam: Assamese Aerospace Engineer Priyanka Rajkakati Achieves Milestone Journey to Antarctica

GUWAHATI: In a testament to the capabilities of Assam's daughters, aerospace engineer Priyanka Rajkakati has triumphantly completed her inaugural expedition to Antarctica. The journey not only marked a personal achievement but also showcased her home state, Assam, from the unique perspective of the Southern Hemisphere.

Priyanka's ambition to become the first Assamese woman to venture into the Southern hemisphere was met with resounding success, as she proudly carried Assam's cultural emblem, the Gamocha, symbolizing her roots and heritage. The significance of her accomplishment resonates beyond personal achievement, as she becomes a trailblazer inspiring others to reach for the stars.

What adds a distinctive touch to Priyanka's journey is her deep connection with Assam, evident through her sponsors for this extraordinary expedition — Assam Tourism and the Government of Assam. Engaging in the Homeward Bound program, Priyanka stands shoulder to shoulder with over 80 women scientists specializing in STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine) from 18 different countries. The challenging 19-night expedition to Antarctica involves navigating the perilous Drake's Passage, notorious for waves reaching up to 60 feet. The planned landings near the Southern Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula add a layer of complexity to an already arduous journey.

Priyanka's accomplishment goes beyond personal and professional triumph; it becomes a symbol of empowerment for women in STEMM fields, encouraging them to explore uncharted territories and break through the barriers of traditional expectations.
