MORIGAON: The Assamese traditional Kati Bihu was celebrated by Morigaon district administration in cooperation with the District Agriculture Office, Morigaon at Teteli Tal located on the bank of the Charon Beel on Wednesday.

In keeping with the celebration of Kati Bihu, a meeting was organized by District Agriculture Office which was formally inaugurated by District Commissioner Devashis Sarma in presence of officers and local people. The sky lanterns were officially lit by District Commissioner Devashis Sarma at Teteli Tal field. The programme was conducted by District Agriculture Officer Ashok Kumar Sharma.

The programme was moderated by Assistant Inspector of Agriculture department, Dibyajyoti Hazarika. The District Agriculture Officer briefed the farmers on the benefits of the departmental schemes in detail. In addition, agricultural machinery under RKVY, NFSM, NMEO and HMNEH 2023-24 schemes were officially distributed among several eligible beneficiary farmers.

BISWANATH CHARIALI: Kati Bihu was celebrated on Wednesday in the courtyard of Gerubari Namghar at Biswanath Chariali under the initiative of the Department of Agriculture, Government of Assam, in collaboration with the Biswanath District Agriculture Department. The event was attended by Additional District Commissioner Dhruvajyoti Das, Biswanath Sub Divisional Agriculture Officer Pradeep Talukdar, local MLA etc. and the public.

In line with this event, several progressive farmers and several prominent social workers were felicitated departmentally, besides organizing awareness programmes about various ongoing agricultural schemes in the Biswanath district. Around 300 people present at the meeting lit 101 earthen lamps in the fields of Geruabari village in keeping with the tradition.

As per the orders of the Government of Assam, Kati Bihu was celebrated with the help of Gohpur subdivisional agriculture department and local people at Charingiya village.
