Goalpara: The journalists of Goalpara district on Monday organized a meeting at the District Press Club and protested the alleged physical abuse of senior journalist Dilip Kumar Nath while he was covering an eviction drive carried out jointly by the Lakhipur circle and range forest office on Sunday.

According to the version of Nath, he was dragged by at least two forest personnel who did not stop abusing him even after repeated prayer that he was a cardiac and diabetic patient.

Representative of several journalist organizations vehemently protested the incident and decided to stage dharna on Thursday unless the matter is adequately addressed by the district administration. The journalists also submitted a memorandum to the District Commissioner demanding an urgent and immediate inquiry of the incident.
