GUWAHATI: Not letting up their drive against corruption, a team of officials of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption on Wednesday arrested the assistant Block Development Officer (BDO) cum Secretary of the Dhula Gaon Panchayat in Darrang district of Assam on the charge of accepting bribe.
The arrested assistant BDO has been identified as Sujit Thakuria. He had demanded money for passing a bill.
He was trapped and arrested red- handed on Wednesday by the officials of the anti corruption cell while accepting demanded money for passing a running bill in connection with a contractual work.
Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption has been actively pursuing cases of bribery and corruption that were reported by the victims or people who are monitoring such cases. Most of the officials have been caught red- handed while accepting bribes in exchange of granting favours.
Meanwhile, taking to twitter, ADGP (Law & Order) GP Singh wrote, "Shri Sujit Thakuria, Asstt. BDO-cum-Secretary, Dhula Gaon Panchayat, District Darrang has been trapped and arrested red handed today by @DIR_VAC_ASSAM while accepting demanded money for passing a running bill in connection with a contractual work. "
Earlier, on August 7, a team of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption department, Assam arrested a police personal for allegedly accepting bribe.
The accused identified as Sabin Pal Das is the Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Matiya Police Station in Goalpara district.
Special DGP Law and Order, GP Singh tweeted in regard to this case, "We don't spare even our @assampolice personnel. Today, @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped and arrested red handed, Sri Sabin Pal Das, ASI of Matiya Police Station of @goalparapolice within police station Complex while accepting bribe money. Lawful action being taken."
The Assam Police has urged citizens to report any kind of monetary demands made by government employees and have also issued two helpline numbers in this regard. Citizens have been asked to report bribery cases at the helpline numbers: 0361-2462295 and 1800-3453767.
