Assam: Assistant Sub-Inspector Apprehended for Accepting Bribe in Hailakandi

GUWAHATI: In a recent development, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption has made a significant breakthrough in the fight against corruption in Assam's Hailakandi district. Their dedicated team of sleuths apprehended an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) named Hitush Nath, stationed at the Abdullah Police Patrol Post, after he was caught red-handed accepting a bribe. This operation, carried out on a Tuesday, comes in response to a complaint filed by a concerned citizen who accused the ASI of demanding a bribe.

The chain of events unfolded as the complainant approached the authorities, alleging that the ASI had solicited a bribe from them. In response to this serious accusation, the anti-corruption cell swiftly sprang into action. A meticulously planned trap was set to catch the errant police official in the act of accepting an illicit payoff.

In a brazen act of corruption, Hitush Nath was apprehended by the vigilant anti-corruption team while he accepted a sum of Rs. 10,000. The money was handed over to him as a bribe, purportedly to facilitate the amicable resolution of a dispute between two parties. This flagrant abuse of power and the betrayal of public trust by a law enforcement officer is a stark reminder of the challenges faced in eradicating corruption from society.

Taking to their official communication platform, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption shared the details of their successful operation, posting, "Today, @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red-handed ASI Hitush Nath of Abdullah Police Patrol Post, District Hailakandi, immediately after he accepted Rs. 10,000/- as a bribe for amicably settling a dispute between two parties."
