Lakhimpur: To strengthen the relation between Assam and West Bengal culturally and intellectually, a cultural exchange programme was held under the auspices of the Department of Assamese, North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) on Saturday.
A press statement said that the programme, titled as 'Assam-Bengal Cultural Exchange', was organized at Shri Ramkrishna Saradapeeth in Jhargram district of West Bengal in collaboration with the institution. The programme was held under the management of Bengal cultural exponent Krishna Panja and it was inaugurated by Dr. Sheikh Moqbul Islam, the Associate Professor of St. Paul's Cathedral Mission College.
In his lecture, Dr. Islam said, "Cultural exchange between Assam and West Bengl is the primary requirement to strengthen the relation between the two States. In this regard, North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) has initiated a strong and praiseworthy initiative during last three years." In the programme, welcome address was delivered by Dr. Arabinda Rajkhowa, the Head of the Department of Assamese, North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous). He said, "The communities across the nation must be united in order to build a strong and developed India in real sense. Ramkrishna Saradapeeth has given Assam opportunity to be thankful by organizing the cultural exchange programme in Jhargram district of West Bengal."
In the programme, students of Jhargram performed various cultural events. Earlier, the Department of Assamese, North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) and St. Paul's Cathedral Mission College of Kolkata jointly organized a book release programme in the auditorium of the latter college. It was chaired by Dr. Sheikh Moqbul Islam, a noted academician and researcher of Kolkata. In the programme, two books, authored by Pubali Borah and Shobhakrishna Phukan, who are two researchers of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous), we're released. These books have been jointly published by North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) and St. Paul's Cathedral Mission College. Sahityar Purakotha, Byanga Aru Anyanya Prasanga, written by Shobhakrishna Phukan, was released by noted translator Basudev Dass while Sahitya Aru Sanskriti Adhyan, written by Pubali Borah, was released by Binayak Bhattacharya, the Head of the Department of Bangla, St. Paul's Cathedral Mission College.
In the programme, the welcome address was delivered by Professor Dr. Shubhendu Kanjilal, while Assistant Professor of Sociology, Anindita Sarkar presented song. It was followed by discussion event on the activities conducted by North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) and St. Paul's Cathedral Mission College as per the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) inked by the both colleges in 2019, and their future agenda. Dr. Arabinda Rajkhowa, Dr. Rhitaja Bhattacharya, Munmi Dutta, Dr. Dhiraj Pator, Dr. Proma Pal, Dr. Shubhadeep Sarkar participated in the discussion. In the course of the event, resolution was taken to organize a national level seminar on the 'Bhakti Movement in medieval India' next year.
