The place is known as Gupta Kashi. There is a myth that King Bana in the prehistoric time established 1 Kouti Linga here in this region, but as there can't exist two same Kashi with Kouti Linga, Narada stole one linga out of this and it remains short of one linga it became a hidden Kashi that is why the place is known as Gupta Kashi since time ancient. It also reflects the glory of the flourished during the Ahom period till today” said Dr Kishore Hazarika of Shining Green Ashiana Welfare Foundation while accepting the recognition.

“I am honoured to represent the state to receive the award and now it is our additional responsibility to move forward and follow the best practices for further development of the destination. The stakeholders of the village and the Govt. will have to work together to set an example for the other villages of Assam. Biswanath Ghat's recognition in the country as one of the best tourism villages is not only a great honour for the state of Assam but also a chance to promote responsible and sustainable tourism of the community in the area.” said the Deputy Director of Assam Tourism, Moitreyee Das.
