Assam: Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika Remembered on his Death Anniversary

BISWANATH: The death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika was observed in the bordering region of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh as Integrity Day. The event organised by the Pabhoi Unit of the All Assam Students Union saw a large number of attendees.

The Pabhoi Unit of the All Assam Students Union organised an event to celebrate Integrity Day, in remembrance of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his 12th death anniversary. The participants offered their homage to the well-acclaimed artist and several of his creations were performed.

It can be noted that the location on the Assam- Arunachal Pradesh border where this event was organised is the meeting point of several cultures as people of multiple tribes inhabit this area. The event was organised in the playground on the premises of the Dalanguri Higher Secondary in Biswanath.

A massive cultural rally was also organised on the occasion. Noted social worker Akan Saikia flagged off this rally. The office holders and the workers of the All Assam Students Union felicitated the dignitaries who visited the location on the occasion of the event. Local performers showcased the popular number “Manuhe Mahuhor Baba” by Dr Bhupen Hazarika in multiple languages including Bodo, Garo, Karbi, Tea Tribes, Adivashi, Odiya, Nepali, Munda, Santali, Parja, Bhojpuri and Bengali. Apart from these languages, more than 100 people assembled to sing the number in Assamese.

On behalf of the state Government The Cultural Affairs Department organized a memorial event at Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Samadhi Khetra, Jalukbari with a memorial meeting and an all-religion prayer meeting, where Minister Bimal Borah paid tribute to the maestro.AASU paid their homages at the statue of the maestro, which was inaugurated by the maestro itself, located at Dighalipukhuri, on Sunday morning. Later in the evening, AASU, along with various admirers, significant people, artists, students, and others, lit 10,000 earthen lamps in remembrance of him at Dighalipukhuri par. On the occasion, artiste Kailash Rabha played Sudhakantha's evergreen songs on his saxophone, which was mesmerizing to the public.
