GUWAHATI: Many ornithologists and bird lovers from different parts of Assam have been organizing a programme since 2020 for the conservation of birds. The four-day event called “Bihu Bird Count” is held on all three Bihus of the year. This is the fourth time that Kati Bihu Bird Count-2023 is being held. Organized in collaboration with The Assam Bird Monitoring Network and Bird Count India (BIRD Count India), the main objective of this Kati Bihu Bird Count is to make the public aware of the importance and conservation needs of wild birds so that people become aware of nature and natural elements as well as the global online platform.
However, along with the counting of birds at this year’s Kati Bihu Bird Count, it is planned to record the bird at the moment of observation, the name of the settlement/tree/ creeper/ forest present, the use of the ritual shown by the bird/ bird at that moment, etc. The list of birds seen at any time of the day from October 19 to October 22 from anywhere in Assam can be uploaded to the website titled ebird.org/india. These lists are uploaded on the said website by October 31. Each check list should be of at least 15 minutes. The event can be attended by all irrespective of age and profession. The successful conduct of this year’s Kati Bihu Bird Count-2023 seeks the cooperation and active participation of people from every district of Assam.
