GUWAHATI : Senior advocate Bijan Mahajan on Friday was escorted out of Guwahati High Court for entering the court premises wearing a jeans. 

Police personnels escorted Mahajan out of the High Court, when he visited the place for a hearing of a case on 27th of January, Friday. The court stated in an order, 'Matter stands adjourned today as Mr. BK Mahajan learned counsel for the petitioner is attired in jeans pant. 

Therefore, the court had to call for the police personnel to decourt him outside the High Court campus. As per sources, Bijan Mahajan usually visits the court in jeans, however, the matter was only brought to light on Friday.

This particular action of the High Court is a result of the Assam government's new set of directives for its Legislative assembly employees to wear formals and traditional attires.

As per the order, male employees are directed to wear formal dress while the female employees shall come in traditional attires. The order further advised the employees to refrain from wearing jeans, leggings and t-shirts while on duty at Assembly campuses.

Not only that, but the journalists who covered the proceedings had been asked to wear formal dress. Notably, this order passed on the directives of Assam Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimari shall apply to staff working on daily wage and fixed pay besides those on monthly honorarium basis irrespective of their gender.

Apart from that, all employees irrespective of their official designations have been asked to wear their official uniform provided by the Secretariat during Assembly Sessions. The same also have to be worn at formal occasions and programmes as decided by the authorities, stated the order.

It strictly mentions that strict action will be initiated against any assembly employee who fail to abide by the instructions as mentioned in the order. Further to that, for failing to serve full time in the requisite hours of duty, a considerable portion from their monthly salary will be deducted.
