BISWANATH: The first annual meeting of the Biswanath unit of the All Assam Students Union (AASU) was organised with a two-day event in the Garehagi village of Biswanath. The two-day event successfully ended on Sunday.

The president of the district committee, Bikram Bikash Borah chaired the open meeting hosted in the afternoon. The Chief Advisor of the student body, Dr Samujjal Bhattacharjya also attended the meeting. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Samujjal Bhattacharjya mentioned that apart from looking into the problems faced by the students, the students’ body must also try and find solutions to the social problems faced by the Assamese community as a whole and to world towards the overall development of the state.

President in charge, Utpal Sharma and secretary Sankarjyoti Baruah also attended the event. Advisor of the organisation, Prakash Chandra Das as well as Sonit Kumar Bhuyan also attend this event. The president of the Biswanath district unit of Sahitya Sabha, Pradeep Kumar Sharma released a memorial book named Abhighyan, compiled by Basanta Bora.

The members of the All Assam Students Union (AASU) paid their homages to the martyrs who lost their lives in the food and economic movements. Gajen Ingti and Putul Saikia had been martyred on June 10, 1974, in their attempt to secure the future of the state. AASU organized the event centrally in the playground of Chandrapur High School with a day-long schedule with the help of the All Kamrup (M) District Students Union. The in-charge president, Utpal Sarma, hoisted the flag in the morning, while the general secretary, Shankarjyoti Baruah, paid due respect to the martyrs of the state. Chief advisor Dr Samujjal Bhattacharjya and advisor Prakash Chandra Das also presented garlands of flowers to the martyrs. This was followed by a public meeting chaired by Utpal Sharma.
