Guwahati: Bhabesh Kalita who is the chief of BJP in Assam, has reportedly said that the government will allow tripling on two-wheeler when the petrol price reaches Rs 200 per litre in the state.

During a event at Tamulpur he said clarified his statement where he has said that people should avoid luxury cars to save fuel and should go for tripling on two-wheeler.

"I suggested tripling riding can be done only when petrol price touches Rs 200 per litre. When it reaches Rs 200 we can take the government's permission to allow three people in one bike and even manufacture three-seater two-wheeler vehicles." Kalita said.

On the price rise of mustard oil, Kalita said that price will reduce after harvesting of mustard cultivation.

"We have not started cultivation of mustard till now this year. Once we start and the crop is harvested, the price of oil will also decrease", he claimed.

On Sunday, Assam Congress leader Angkita Dutta sarcastically thanked the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi for the recent surge in fuel prices which has now skyrocketed to a record-breaking high. The Congress leader had tweeted, "Thank you Modi Ji. What an exciting day. Refuelled my car in Amguri today. Diesel @ ₹ 95.13 & Petrol @ ₹ 102.71."

On Saturday, the prices of the fuels witnessed a surge for the third consecutive day all across the country. As of October 16, 2021, the price of petrol in Guwahati was Rs. 101.45 per litre while the price of diesel was Rs. 93.90 per litre. The price of the fuel is inclusive of excise duty, value-added tax (VAT), and dealer commission. The price of petrol has witnessed a rise of 30 to 35 paise per litre and the price of diesel has witnessed a rise of 33 to 37 paise per litre as on Saturday.
