Guwahati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit in Assam has demanded an NIA probe against the NGO run by Lok Sabha MP and All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal after a report had accused him of receiving foreign funds and having links with terror groups.

The state BJP unit has demanded the probe on the basis of a National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) report against the NGO run by Ajmal.

Assam BJP MLA and senior party leader Dr Numal Momin had said that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) should take up the case to dig more about the facts which were reported by the NCPCR.

"This is a very serious issue for the people of Assam. In the name of orphanages, Badruddin Ajmal is looting Assam and he is making his image as a messiah of these poor people. But the actual fact is that his Markazul is related to some Al-Qaeda network and it is the greatest threat to the people of Assam. We strongly demand and inquiry from the NIA and it should be inquired as early as possible and the culprit must be behind the bar for the future of Assam," said Momin.

On the other hand, Assam Finance Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the Assam government has received the report of NCPCR and all necessary action will be initiated.

"NCPCR has given a very damning report against the NGO run by Badruddin Ajmal who is the MLA from Assam. The report has been received by the Assam government and all necessary action will be initiated as per the report," said Minister Sarma.

Meanwhile, Ajmal's family has refuted all the allegations and said that it is a political conspiracy against them. Ajmal's son AIUDF MLA Abdur Rahim Ajmal said that his father had denied all the allegations.

Apex child rights body National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) had fod the misuse of funds by six childcare institutions in Assam and Manipur.

The commission had said that as per the information that is being made available to the inspection team, 778 children were residing in these homes. However, according to the information in the bio on the Lok Sabha website of MP Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, who has established the Darul Yatama homes mentions that 1,010 children live in these homes.

The inspection team was also informed that funds were being received from an international NGO IHH by one of the homes.
