Speaking to the media, the actor-turned-politician said that the people of Assam want only development and they could understand the real intention of the protesting leaders.
"We, all, have seen that the BJP received the overwhelming support from the people in the recently concluded by-polls. People want only development and they discard the protesting leaders," she added.
The BJP leader also took a dig at the CAA protesters and added some among the protesters who joined the ruling party.
"Some among them join the BJP. So, I call the protest against the CAA was a drama," she said.
Meanwhile, following the Prime Minister's announcement to repeal the Farm laws, the AASU (All Assam Students' Union), on Friday said that the students' organisation will resume the agitation against the contentious CAA (Citizenship (Amendment Act).
Talking to The Sentinel, AASU general secretary Sankor Jyoti Baruah said, "The continuous stir of the farmers ultimately compelled the Centre to take this significant decision. It's proved that if the masses can exert the right amount of pressure on the government then the authorities concerned will be forced to listen to the genuine demands of the public."
The AASU leader added, "The AASU and several other organisations protested against the CAA when even five persons became martyrs following police firing. "However, we failed to sustain the tempo of the stir.
There were two reasons for this: First, it was the Covid pandemic; secondly, it was due to the divide and rule policy of the government.
