Dibrugarh: Amid all the protests and public outcry over rising prices of vegetables, particularly potatoes and onion, BJP MLA from Dibrugarh, Prasanta Phukan came up with a unique solution – if onions are expensive use 'Paanchphuran'.
But his solution does not seem to have gone down very well with the public, as rising prices of essential commodities are burning a hole in their pockets.
MLA Phukan reason behind asking people to opt for Paanchphuran (a mix of five spices) is its medicinal qualities as it has fenugreek (methi) seeds supposed to have several medicinal properties.
"Right now, people should not worry about the prices of onions", Prasanta Phukan says.
Phukan complained about how people in urban households use 1 kg onion to cook food when rural people use only 2 onions to cook chicken.
"The people are never thankful to a government when the prices of onions come down. The people only complain when there is a sharp spike in onion prices mostly due to supply constraints," said Phukan.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has ordered all concerned departments to form teams and check this sudden artificial price rise.
