SOOTEA: In a gripping incident, a BJP worker was murdered in Sootea by unidentified miscreants on Monday.
The victim identified as Jaanmoni Borah was attacked and killed by unidentified miscreants at Shantipur Village on Itakhola road in Sootea.
According to reliable sources, the deceased's body was found in a pond nearby. The incident has clouded the area with sadness following the death of its local BJP worker.
The police and the local people arrived at the site to take a stock of the incident.
Further investigation on this sensational murder case is on and the police are questioning the family members of Jaanmoni Borah to find out if he had any kind of enmity with anyone which could have cost him his life.
In a similar incident a few days back, a BJP worker was shot dead by five unidentified men inside a garments store in Gurugram. The deceased Sukhbir Khatana used to be a close aide to Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
The average number of annual murders during 2012-16 in the country was 32,839, which fell to 29,010 during 2017-21 period.
Assam specifically is seeing a rise in the cases of murder as it witnessed a slight increase in the number of murder cases reported in a year from 1131 in 2020 to 1192 in 2021 according to a report by the National Crime Records Bureau(NCRB).
The state has maintained the trend of recording an increase in crimes after a dip in the previous year, as reported by the National Crime Records Bureau(NCRB).
The report by NCRB also mentioned that the motive behind more than 500 murder cases in the state was unspecified, followed by that more than 300 persons were murdered on grounds of enmity and more than 200 cases of murder in the state had a property dispute angle to it.
"Cases of murder have witnessed increases, while all other types of crimes have declined", a top police official stated.
