Guwahati: In a major breakthrough, police officials of Assam's Golaghat district on Wednesday apprehended a husband-wife duo accused of poaching rhinos in Bokakhat town. The husband and wife -- Konkoni Pegu and Uruka Pegu -- were both reportedly involved in rhino killing.

According to reports, a team of Bokakhat Police raided their house of Konkoni Pegu and seized a rhino horn from her house. A Forest Department official, another accused in the case, has also been arrested. The forest official, Sashi Doley, gave the rhino horn to Konkoni. They were reportedly planning to sell the horn later on.

After her arrest, Konkoni claimed that the forest official had asked her to keep the rhino horn in their house. He had also promised to take a buyer to their residence, she said. "He asked me to keep it a secret. I didn't even know about the rhino horn until the police team came and found it in the bag," she said.

Meanwhile, his husband has claimed that he did not know anything about the whole affair and his wife had been given the rhino horn when he was not at home.
